Shiek Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation is an Islamic school located at Danladi Nasidi Qauters, Kumbusto local government area Kano state, this school was founded during the former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan when the almajiri system of learning was introduced. The field which was given out for charity and was built by an unknown philanthropist for the almajiri learning.
On 10th September, 2020 the school cave at morning hours, however our correspondent has visited the site to know the causes of the slump, in an in-depth discussion with residents’ information revealed that the foundation of the building was not a tier building plan. The school which was a 3 upper floor building before it collapsed, residents confirmed that the building has fallen down more than twice, but the school authority insisted to rebuild it again without restructuring or changing the ground foundation.
From a view the whole building has collapsed while other part slumped inside the ground. Parents, students, and affected neighbor were interviewed, Auwalu Idris who is a close neighbor to Shiek Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation Islamiyya expressed his feelings on the unpleasant occurrence
“the collapse of the building has affected me deeply, because my water tank is located behind the wall of the school. As the building cave in some block destroyed the pipe that connects water to my house and also destroyed some part of my wall.
“this sad moment has made me to search for water from my neighbors, due to the damages caused by the collapsed building, and also it cost me money to fix the pipe back. Regarding to the damages to my wall, it has reduced the rate of security because it will serve as an avenue for criminals to execute their nefarious activities, I couldn’t feel peacefully due to I felt unsecured between me and my family, our happiness is that no life was claim”.
Alhaji Haruna Hadeija who is a neighbor said “I was at home when I heard a startle sound, I assumed it is a trailer turning stones and sand. It was later my children informed me that it is the Islamic school on our street that collapsed”.
“Five days before the incident the teachers noticed some cracks on the wall, immediately the school management declared holiday. My home is not affected but some of my neighbor their buildings had cracked while other parts broken.
Mallam Tijjani Abubakar Ahmed who is a parent and a neighbor the school disclosed on how the incident affected him “The incident happens around 10:30am I was bathing a heavy sound with dust flowered my house, unaware I noticed is the Islamic school close to my house that collapsed. The incident has caused some damages to my wall.
Abdulwahab Auwalu who is a parent and a teacher lamented on the incident said “The happening has really blow our mind and also set us at stage of frighten, because this Islamic school has over 700 students learning the holy Quran. Our joy is no life was claim, but still we are unhappy because our children will be at home, on behalf of the management I'm calling on philanthropists, NGOs, and governmental bodies to aid in rebuilding the school to it normal state.
“Beside the school there is an uncompleted building, our children can continue their Islamic learning there before the school will be rebuild”
Some students of the school expressed their melancholic mood on the incident that happened on their school building, Muhammad Danladi a student said “I am not happy with the collapsed of our Islamic school, we are seeking for assistant from government to rebuild our school and also relax the lockdown imposed on islamiyya”.

From the perspective of expert Engr. Ismail Sani Gezawa however laid the causes that lead to slump of buildings “Before any building should be lay down proper planning and consultation should be made and also professionals are advised to handle buildings not merely roadside bricklayers”.
“lack of soil test is one of the major causes that led to cracking and falling down of buildings, soil test is very important before casting any building, soil test will show result of whether a building will contain an upper floor or not”
“most of our people found it difficult to call surveyors to study the land in order to know the type of building to cast, another challenge is lack of sufficient building materials in making the building, lack of building balance in which some angles are heavier than others can also cause building sag”.
Speaking on behalf of the school management in a telephone interview, Alhaji Nuhu Aminu, Chairman Parents Teachers Association expressed the feelings over the collapse of the building.
He said "For now our students shall stay at home for the meantime, the school management has no money to build up another foundation, because initially the ground was given free and also built on charity. We are calling to the government, philanthropist and charity foundations other individuals to help in restructuring the school again, and also the school management will make efforts to visit some of these bodies in order to have a quick relief.
